Account deletion

Delete your account

You can ask us to delete your CANtutor account and the work stored with it. Here is how, what happens next, and how to change your mind.

If you still have the app or can sign in

This is the fastest route, and it is the only one that does not need a person to action it.

1

Open Settings

In the mobile app, tap Settings. On the website, open your account settings.
2

Choose Delete account

Under Account, choose Delete account.
3

Confirm with your password

You will be asked for your password. That is what proves the request is yours rather than someone else’s.

If you have already uninstalled the app

You do not need to reinstall anything. Email privacy@cantutor.ca from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. Say that you want the account deleted, and include the email address you signed up with.

A person handles these. We will verify that the request really comes from the account holder before deleting anything — which is why we cannot accept a deletion request typed into a form on this page by someone who is not signed in. An unauthenticated form that deletes an account by email address would let anyone delete anyone.

If you also want files you uploaded removed, say so: those are removed as a separate step.

What happens when you ask

  • Your account is scheduled for deletion, not deleted on the spot. There is a 30-day grace window first. This is deliberate: an irreversible delete on a single tap is how a student loses a term of coursework they meant to keep.
  • You are signed out and billing stops renewing. Your subscription is set to end at the end of the period you have already paid for, so it may still show as active until then. You are not charged again.
  • After the grace window, your account and its contents are removed. That includes your profile, your tutoring conversations, your saved work and your uploads.

Changing your mind

Signing back in during the 30-day window cancels the deletion. Nothing else is needed — no email, no support ticket. If you signed out and then decided you would rather keep the account, just sign in again.

After the window closes, the deletion cannot be undone and we cannot recover the content.

What we keep, and why

A small amount of information outlives the account, because deleting it would break a legal or accounting obligation rather than protect your privacy:

  • Billing and tax records for payments already made. Canadian record-keeping rules require these to be retained; they are not used for anything else.
  • Security and abuse logs where we need them to protect other people, kept for as long as that purpose lasts and no longer.

Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Parents and guardians

If you are a parent or guardian asking us to delete a child’s account, email privacy@cantutor.ca and say so. We will verify the relationship before acting, and we will not need the child to be involved.
