CANtutor AI for Ontario schools

CANtutor AI gives each student a live tutor that works from the course material their teachers already use: the textbook page, the assignment, the rubric. It is built around Ontario’s own courses, with a page for each Ministry course code from MTH1W to MHF4U, and it answers a board’s privacy questions in the words of our privacy policy rather than a sales sheet.

Built around the courses your students are in

An Ontario student does not say “I need help with functions”. They say MCR3U, because that is the string on their timetable. Each course-code page sets out what the course covers, strand by strand, in our own words, where students in it get stuck, and a link to the Ministry’s page for the course so a department head can check us against the source.

All 20 Ontario course codes. A course without a page still works: the student brings their own material to the session.

Connects to Google Classroom for personal Google accounts and school accounts where the board permits third-party apps. Some boards lock this down; if yours does, everything else still works and students upload their material instead. What to do if your board has not approved it yet.

Privacy questions Ontario boards ask

Each answer below is a short restatement of one section of our privacy policy, which is the document that binds us. The link on each answer goes to that section. Where the policy is silent, the answer says so.

Where is student data stored and processed?

Some of our service providers operate outside Canada, so personal information may be stored or processed outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to that country's laws. Our policy does not name a hosting region; if your review needs one, ask us.

Read section 8.2, Processing outside Canada

Is student work used to train AI models?

The content of a request is sent to third-party AI services to produce the response. We use those services under commercial terms that restrict them to returning a result to us and do not permit them to use the content to train their general-purpose models.

Read section 7, How AI features process your content

How is a student's data deleted?

Account and learning content is kept while the account is open. A student can delete the account from inside the app or by email; deletion is scheduled with a grace window during which signing back in cancels it, after which we delete or anonymise the personal information except where the law requires us to keep it.

Read section 11, Retention and deletion

How do age and consent work for younger students?

The service is a general-audience tool and is not directed to children. At setup we ask for a birth year only, which we do not verify; an account that reports an age under 13 cannot be used until a parent or guardian approves it by email.

Read section 5, Consent, age, and young users

Who can see a student's work?

A student's lessons, uploaded work and account details are not visible to other users. In a leaderboard or shared room, only the display name, avatar and score are visible to the other participants.

Read section 9, What other users can see

What happens to information a school provides?

Where a school or district enables the service for its students, the school decides what information is provided and we handle it on the school's instructions under our agreement with them. It is used to provide the service to that school and its students, and for nothing else.

Read section 6, School and Google Classroom accounts

Our policy does not yet state a hosting region, offer a data-processing agreement, or address the obligations a board carries under Ontario’s municipal privacy legislation. If your review turns on any of those, write to us and we will answer in writing rather than leave it to a web page.

How a pilot works

1

Send us a message

Tell us which school or board you are, roughly how many students, and which courses are the problem.

2

A short call

How it looks in a classroom, what it costs, and whatever your privacy review will want answered. Send us the questionnaire and we answer it directly.

3

We set it up with you

We work with your team on the rollout. There is no self-serve configuration and nothing for your staff to work out alone.

Students use the product in any modern browser, Chromebooks included, with their own account. There is no board-level dashboard or rostering system to configure, and we do not claim one.

Talk to us about your board

Tell us who you are and what is not working. If we are not a good fit, we will say so.
