Ontario percentage to GPA converter
An Ontario percentage converts to a 4.0-scale GPA through the OUAC Undergraduate Grade Conversion Table, which OMSAS uses for medical-school applications: 90 and above is 4.0, 85–89 is 3.9, 80–84 is 3.7, and each band below follows the table shown on this page. Questions about this tool
Is this the scale Ontario universities use for admission?
It is the scale OUAC publishes for OMSAS, the Ontario medical-school application service, and OUAC's table lists which of its scales each Canadian university's grades are read on. Undergraduate admission from an Ontario high school is generally based on your percentage marks directly; this converter is for the situations, such as graduate, professional or American applications, that ask for a 4.0 figure.
Why is 85 a 3.9 and not a 4.0?
Because OUAC's Scale 3 puts 90–100 at 4.0 and 85–89 at 3.9, with 3.8 left out of the percentage scales entirely. Many other conversion tables round an A to 4.0, which is why an estimate from a different calculator can be a tenth higher. Use the scale the institution you are applying to actually names.
What if my university uses a different OUAC scale?
OUAC's table lists several scales and names the one each university's grades are read on; some, such as Toronto, Queen's, Waterloo and Windsor, appear under two. This page applies Scale 3, the percentage scale. If your transcript reports letters or a 9-point or 10-point number, use the matching column on the OUAC page linked below.
