Working on an essay
Essays are the case where the order of operations matters most, because the expensive mistake — a thesis that is an observation rather than an argument — happens in the first ten minutes and is not fixable by editing later. This is the sequence that avoids it.
Talk through the thesis first, before writing anything
Open a session and argue about it out loud. The test to apply: could a reasonable person disagree? If not, it is a summary, and no amount of good writing downstream will rescue it.
Build your evidence before drafting
Collect the quotes you intend to use and check that each one supports the claim rather than merely illustrating the topic. Doing this before you draft stops you writing paragraphs around quotes that do not fit.
Write the draft yourself
This is not a limitation to work around — it is the part that earns the grade and the part your teacher will ask you about. The app is built to give feedback on your writing, not to produce it.

Will it write the essay for me?
No. It works on your thesis, your structure and your evidence, and it gives feedback on drafts you wrote. Submitting generated prose as your own is academic misconduct at every school we know of.
Is getting feedback on my draft allowed?
Getting feedback on your own writing is what a writing centre or a teacher's office hours does. Your school's academic integrity policy is the one that governs, though, and those vary — if you are unsure, read yours or ask your teacher.
Can it help with a book it doesn't know well?
Structure, thesis strength and use of evidence live in your draft, so those can be assessed from the draft itself. For close analysis of a particular passage, paste or share the passage.
