Both, if you have them. The rubric is the one people skip and it is the one that matters — it is the document your marker is actually holding.

Ask what it is really asking for
Assignment titles are frequently misleading about what earns the marks. It will tell you what each rubric criterion wants and, usually, that two of them are the same thing said twice.

Work out the first move out loud
Talk through what you already know. It will help you shape a plan, and it will notice the part you are avoiding because you do not understand it yet.

Get unstuck on the hard part, then keep going
When you hit the bit that stopped you, share your screen and work it through on the whiteboard. Then close the session and write it yourself.
